Manchester United 2 (3) Anderlecht 1 (2) AET – UEFA Europa League Quarter Final 2nd leg photo match report

Luke Shaw, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Michael Carrick, Sergio Romero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all came into the side as United made 5 changes to the team that beat Chelsea.

Argentina’s number 1, Romero started again in the Europa League.

While Anderlecht had players back including top scorer Lukask Teodorczyk.

Just like on Sunday, United took an early lead, but this time Rashford set up Mkhitaryan who finished well from the edge of the box.

But the Armenian’s 5th goal in his last 6 Europa League appearances was cancelled out by Sofiane Hanni after Youri Tielemans strike deflected onto the bar. The vital away goal meant for the rest of the night United knew they’d need 2 if Anderlecht scored again.

United went onto to have lots of chances but could not find a way past Ruben in the Anderlecht goal. And the match went to extra time, as did 2 of the other 3 Quarter Finals.

But it was Marcus Rashford who turned well in the box and placed his shot past Ruben, after a great flick on by Marouane Fellaini, sending United into the Semi Finals.

The only downside for United were the potentially long term injuries to top scorer Ibrahimovic and key defender Marcos Rojo.

Into the Semi Finals of the Europa League.
